Release notes
Changelog
1.0.0
First public release, renamed from the internal working title.
- New name, Sheafpress (previously worked under the names Quire, Inkbound and Leafwright, each of which turned out to be taken); project files are now
.sheafpress. - One-time license with a 14-day full-featured trial; project saves and the story-bible export stay free forever.
- Crash-safe file autosave with rolling backup in the user data folder (no browser storage quota); single-instance lock; double-click
.sheafpressto open. - Optional AI features now work in the desktop app with the user's own key for Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (OpenRouter, Groq, local Ollama or LM Studio). Keys are stored encrypted by the OS, one per provider.
- Fonts are bundled; the app and print view no longer contact any font CDN. Content-Security-Policy added, window navigation locked down, permissions denied.
- Neutral sample book instead of personal content; fixed label wrapping in the Format panel sliders.
- Library: rename books, assign a book to a series (or make it standalone), rename or merge series, and reorder books within a series. Standalone books are grouped separately instead of each being its own series.
- Projects saved under the earlier names (
.leafwright,.inkbound,.quire) still open. - Title page, copyright page (year, holder, publisher, ISBNs, edition, notice, extra lines), dedication, epigraph with attribution, acknowledgements, also-by and author bio are now editable in the Format tab and flow through the proof, print PDF and EPUB.
- Proof mode in Format: the whole book laid out on real trim-size pages (right-hand chapter starts, blank versos, drop caps, widow/orphan control, running heads, page numbers, contents with page numbers), with spreads, zoom-to-fit, jump-to-chapter, margin guides and a proof PDF. The print PDF now uses the same pages.
- Cover tab: four designs, palettes and custom colors, optional artwork, back-cover description and bio, spine text, series line. Exports an ebook PNG and a 300 dpi print-wrap PDF or PNG sized from trim, page count and paper. Each book keeps its own cover.
- Editing pass rebuilt (new
editing.js) for precision: unknown names and places are no longer "continuity errors" (they appear in a separate Names list you can add from or ignore); simple sentences and short paragraphs are no longer pacing problems (pacing now means very long sentences, wall-of-text paragraphs and "then" chains, with a proper sentence splitter); crutch words and filter phrases are judged by rate per 1,000 words instead of any repeat; dialogue is not judged for style; names may repeat. New: real name-typo detection against the bible, close-word repetition, unclosed quotes, a/an, spacing, lowercase "I", Strict/Balanced/Light sensitivity, "Ignore everywhere", chapter stats, and fixes that work inside italic and bold text. Results are cached, so the pass no longer re-runs on every keystroke. - License protection: each key carries a unique id (the order id) and the buyer's name and masked email, shown in Settings, and keys can be revoked in a later release (
tools/make-license.js revoke). The trial now covers DOCX manuscript and ACX script exports only (EPUB, print and proof PDF, tracked-changes DOCX and covers need a license) and cannot be restarted by reinstalling: the start date is kept in several places and, while unlicensed, checked against a hashed device id on sheafpress.com. A revoked key does not start a new trial. - Security hardening: project files are validated and clamped on load,
.docximport resists zip bombs, IPC and file saves are validated, the app blocks all non-local network requests from its window, and the website sends HSTS/COOP/CORP headers.tools/make-license.js giftmakes free keys for friends and family. - Installer license page, file association, Settings dialog (Ctrl/Cmd+,), About box, unit tests.
